This large 18th-century Dutch Delft faience charger is hand-painted in cobalt blue under a tin glaze and features a finely executed architectural landscape framed by a segmented border inspired by historic Kraak porcelain designs. The central composition depicts a garden pavilion beneath a flowering tree, enclosed within an octagonal medallion and surrounded by traditional ornamental panels characteristic of Delft decorative wares of the period.
Rather than directly copying Chinese Kraak porcelain, this charger represents the distinctive Dutch interpretation of these popular motifs, developed by Delft potters during the eighteenth century. Large chargers of this type were produced both as decorative display pieces and for affluent domestic interiors, and today they remain highly desirable among collectors of Delftware and European blue-and-white ceramics.
