Spanish Bidasoa Hand-Painted Nautical Plates, Cobalt Blue & Gilt, Set of 2, 10 in

€260

Decorative set of two hand-painted porcelain plates, produced in Spain in the mid-20th century, most likely by the Bidasoa manufactory.

Each plate is decorated with a finely executed maritime scene depicting sailing vessels at sea, painted entirely by hand. The central compositions are framed by a rich cobalt blue border with elaborate hand-applied gilt ornamentation, complemented by small purple landscape medallions executed in a traditional Spanish decorative manner.

The plates feature a softly scalloped rim and a balanced classical composition, combining nautical romanticism with refined decorative craftsmanship. The quality of painting, visible brushwork, and subtle variations between the scenes confirm their hand-painted origin.

These plates were intended as decorative objects rather than tableware and represent a fine example of Spanish decorative porcelain from the post-war period.

Chosen for today, grounded in history.

A well-placed antique does more than decorate a room - it gives it authorship. Against a contemporary interior, older objects introduce texture, balance and a sense of permanence that cannot be replicated by newly made pieces alone.
This is the principle behind the LÜRON selection. We look for works that carry historical character with ease, and that feel as convincing in a Paris apartment as they do in a more modern architectural setting.
