Pair of French Empire Revival Gilt Bronze Figural Candelabra – Late 19th Century - 18in

€3.500

An exceptional pair of French Empire Revival gilt bronze figural candelabra, masterfully sculpted as elegant classical maidens supporting four-light candle branches. Richly detailed throughout, the design combines graceful neoclassical figures with finely cast scrolling arms, floral ornamentation and beautifully proportioned architectural bases, creating a striking decorative ensemble of remarkable presence.

Based on the overall sculptural quality, casting technique, chasing and stylistic characteristics, the pair is attributed to the late 19th century. While this dating represents the most likely attribution, an early 20th-century production cannot be entirely excluded in the absence of a documented maker’s mark.

The quality of execution is particularly noteworthy. The two female figures are not identical, each displaying subtle differences in facial modelling, drapery and sculptural detailing, reflecting the level of hand finishing often found on high-quality decorative bronzes of this type. The finely chased surfaces, elegant proportions and rich fire-gilt finish further enhance their refined appearance.

Both candelabra remain in excellent antique condition, with beautifully preserved gilding and crisp sculptural details. There are no significant dents, structural damage or visible deformations, and they present exceptionally well. An impressive and highly decorative pair, equally suited to both traditional and contemporary interiors.

Chosen for today, grounded in history.

A well-placed antique does more than decorate a room - it gives it authorship. Against a contemporary interior, older objects introduce texture, balance and a sense of permanence that cannot be replicated by newly made pieces alone.
This is the principle behind the LÜRON selection. We look for works that carry historical character with ease, and that feel as convincing in a Paris apartment as they do in a more modern architectural setting.
