Mid 19th Century French Empire Style Bronze and Marble Ashtray, Black Tôle Tray, Gilt Mounts, 8.1”

€650

An elegant French Empire style ashtray executed in a refined combination of gilt bronze, black lacquered metal and marble.

The circular tray is supported by a fluted column rising from a substantial marble base, while finely cast gilt bronze mounts enrich the composition with restrained neoclassical ornamentation. The contrast between the deep black surface and the warm gilded bronze creates a sophisticated and distinctly architectural presence.

Particularly attractive is the pierced bronze frieze surrounding the tray, together with the richly detailed base elements inspired by classical Empire design traditions. The proportions remain balanced and decorative, allowing the piece to function equally well as both a practical object and an interior accent.

The interior surface shows visible age-related wear and rubbing consistent with historical use, while the marble base and bronze mounts remain well preserved overall.

Details:
• Dimensions: Height: 16.5 cm (6.5 inches); Diameter: 20.5 cm (8.1 inches)
• Condition: Good antique condition with age-related wear and rubbing to the black lacquered tray surface. Marble base remains free from visible cracks or major chips under normal inspection. Gilt bronze mounts remain well preserved with minor wear consistent with age. Photographs are an integral part of the description.

Chosen for today, grounded in history.

A well-placed antique does more than decorate a room - it gives it authorship. Against a contemporary interior, older objects introduce texture, balance and a sense of permanence that cannot be replicated by newly made pieces alone.
This is the principle behind the LÜRON selection. We look for works that carry historical character with ease, and that feel as convincing in a Paris apartment as they do in a more modern architectural setting.
