Late 19th Century, French Faience Plate, Rouen Style, Hand-Painted Bird and Floral Motif, Marked “A D”

€260

A beautiful French faience plate, hand-painted in the Rouen style with a central motif depicting a stylized bird perched among floral branches and tulips. The border features scrolling foliage in deep cobalt blue with light blue and white highlights, typical of Rouen and Nevers-inspired designs.

The scalloped rim adds elegance to the overall form, and the back bears the hand-painted mark “A D” in underglaze blue — likely referring to a late 19th-century regional atelier or decorator working in the tradition of Desvres or Nevers faience.

The decoration is executed in grand feu technique, with bright enamel colors fused into the glaze during high-temperature firing, giving a characteristic soft matte finish to the surface.

Chosen for today, grounded in history.

A well-placed antique does more than decorate a room - it gives it authorship. Against a contemporary interior, older objects introduce texture, balance and a sense of permanence that cannot be replicated by newly made pieces alone.
This is the principle behind the LÜRON selection. We look for works that carry historical character with ease, and that feel as convincing in a Paris apartment as they do in a more modern architectural setting.
