Large Royal Vienna Style Porcelain Portrait Plate in Gilt Metal Frame, 15in

€520

Large European porcelain decorative plate in the Vienna style, featuring a finely printed female portrait surrounded by floral garlands and rich ornamental borders. Produced in Central Europe, most likely the Karlsbad (Karlovy Vary) region, at the turn of the 20th century.

The portrait is executed using chromolithographic transfer printing rather than hand painting, typical for high-quality decorative porcelain of this period. The plate bears a blue beehive-style mark to the reverse, used decoratively and not associated with Royal Vienna manufacture. An impressed factory mark referencing Karlsbad is present on the back, along with a printed signature “Ruelserp” on the front.

The porcelain plate is mounted in an elaborate gilt metal frame with pierced decoration and applied handles, enhancing its strong decorative presence.

Chosen for today, grounded in history.

A well-placed antique does more than decorate a room - it gives it authorship. Against a contemporary interior, older objects introduce texture, balance and a sense of permanence that cannot be replicated by newly made pieces alone.
This is the principle behind the LÜRON selection. We look for works that carry historical character with ease, and that feel as convincing in a Paris apartment as they do in a more modern architectural setting.
