Friedrich Mayer (1825-1875), Landscape, oil on copper, 17x35cm (6,6 x 13,7 in), original gilded frame with stucco 34x52cm (13,7 x 20,4 in)

Friedrich Mayer born on May 5, 1825, he dedicated himself to art against his parents' wishes and will. By turning to landscape as his main subject, he also brought the appropriately architectural and figurative into his field. While roaming around Altbaiern and South Tyrol, M. found a variety of material for his pictures, which initially moved within the narrow repertoire of atmospheric calm. Later he became more versatile and successfully ventured into the genre. The Munich Art Association was soon a willing buyer of his products, which also enjoyed a ready reception abroad. The gentle charm of color and great technical skill were common to all. Who held the position of drawing teacher at the Royal Wilhelms-Gymnasium for many years, died on December 26, 1875 after suffering for several months.

Chosen for today, grounded in history.

A well-placed antique does more than decorate a room - it gives it authorship. Against a contemporary interior, older objects introduce texture, balance and a sense of permanence that cannot be replicated by newly made pieces alone.
This is the principle behind the LÜRON selection. We look for works that carry historical character with ease, and that feel as convincing in a Paris apartment as they do in a more modern architectural setting.
