Art Deco Amber Crystal Decanter with Silver Mount. Early 20th Century, 9.25 in.

€550

An exceptional lead-crystal decanter dating from the first half of the 20th century, distinguished by its architectural faceted form, rich amber overlay and finely worked silver-mounted neck. The surviving German-language label, inscribed “Echt Bleikristall Handgeschliffen,” identifies the material as genuine lead crystal with hand-cut decoration. The attribution and dating remain preliminary pending definitive identification of the maker’s mark.

The substantial body is formed with sharply cut, angular sides and alternating panels of clear and amber-overlay crystal. Each broad amber panel is decorated with finely engraved and frosted grape leaves, tendrils and clusters of fruit, creating an elegant contrast against the transparent ground. The deeply cut lateral facets catch and refract the light beautifully, emphasizing the sculptural quality and substantial weight of the crystal.

The unusually elaborate silver collar is decorated with a hand-hammered upper surface and a continuous repoussé-style band of grape leaves and fruit. This vineyard motif is repeated throughout the crystal decoration, creating a unified composition. The original faceted stopper is particularly impressive, incorporating its own amber-overlay panel and engraved grapevine ornament. Its sharp edges, individual variations and complex cutting are consistent with extensive hand-finishing.

Complete with its original stopper and preserved without chips or clouding, this is a particularly decorative and well-preserved example of early 20th-century luxury tableware.

Chosen for today, grounded in history.

A well-placed antique does more than decorate a room - it gives it authorship. Against a contemporary interior, older objects introduce texture, balance and a sense of permanence that cannot be replicated by newly made pieces alone.
This is the principle behind the LÜRON selection. We look for works that carry historical character with ease, and that feel as convincing in a Paris apartment as they do in a more modern architectural setting.
