19th. Imari Plate – Japan, Dog Motif with Floral Panels

€230

A vibrant Japanese Imari porcelain plate featuring a central depiction of a fantastical dog surrounded by symbolic elements such as knotted tassels and auspicious objects. The rim is divided into alternating red, cobalt blue, and white panels decorated with chrysanthemums, fans, and abstract florals. Executed in the traditional Imari palette with underglaze blue and overglaze enamels in red, green, and yellow, this plate exemplifies export ware from the late Edo to early Meiji period (circa 1850–1880). The charmingly naive animal figure contrasts beautifully with the refined ornamentation, creating a dynamic interplay between whimsy and formality typical of mid-19th century Japanese design.

Chosen for today, grounded in history.

A well-placed antique does more than decorate a room - it gives it authorship. Against a contemporary interior, older objects introduce texture, balance and a sense of permanence that cannot be replicated by newly made pieces alone.
This is the principle behind the LÜRON selection. We look for works that carry historical character with ease, and that feel as convincing in a Paris apartment as they do in a more modern architectural setting.
