19th Century French Photo Album - Leather Binding, Gilt Edges, Brass Clasps, Monogram J.M., Holds 50 Photos (7.9 x 6.7 in)

€590

A beautifully preserved antique photo album, likely of French origin, dating to the second half of the 19th century (attribution preliminary).

The album features a richly textured red leather binding adorned with applied gilt metal ornaments in the form of fleur-de-lis, as well as elegant brass clasps. The page edges are fully gilded, adding to its refined and luxurious appearance.

Inside, the album retains its original photographic pages with cut-out windows designed to hold cartes de visite or similar small format photographs. The pages are marked with “S.G.D.G.” and “DEPOSE”, indicating a registered design under the French patent system of the 19th century.

The cover bears a monogram “J.M.”, suggesting it was originally made for a private owner, adding a personal historical touch.

The album contains 25 pages, each designed to hold 2 photographs, for a total capacity of approximately 50 photographs.

A rare and decorative antique object, ideal for collectors, interior styling, or as a historical display piece.

• Dimensions: Height: 20 cm (7.9 in); Width: 17 cm (6.7 in); Depth: 5 cm (2 in)

Chosen for today, grounded in history.

A well-placed antique does more than decorate a room - it gives it authorship. Against a contemporary interior, older objects introduce texture, balance and a sense of permanence that cannot be replicated by newly made pieces alone.
This is the principle behind the LÜRON selection. We look for works that carry historical character with ease, and that feel as convincing in a Paris apartment as they do in a more modern architectural setting.
