19th Century, Chinese Blue and White Porcelain Dish with Brass Rim, Dragon Motif, Guangxu Period (1875–1908)

€250

A fine late Qing Dynasty blue and white porcelain dish featuring a five-clawed dragon chasing the flaming pearl among clouds, symbolizing imperial power and prosperity. The composition is executed in rich underglaze cobalt blue with subtle shading and wave motifs along the rim.

This example is distinguished by its hand-fitted brass rim, a feature often added during the Qing period to protect valuable porcelain from chipping or during later export to Europe. The soft bluish glaze and slightly grey-toned cobalt suggest Jingdezhen manufacture during the Guangxu reign (1875–1908).

The reverse shows a double-circle reign mark in underglaze blue and typical firing signs from wood kilns. The brass mount remains intact and forms a tasteful frame to the decorative surface.

Details:
• Date: Circa 1875–1908, Guangxu period
• Dimensions: Diameter: 14.5 cm (5.7 in); Height: 3 cm (1.2 in)
• Condition: Fair antique condition; hairline crack with visible old restoration on one side, minor firing flaws and light wear to the glaze. The brass rim remains solid with natural patina from age.

Chosen for today, grounded in history.

A well-placed antique does more than decorate a room - it gives it authorship. Against a contemporary interior, older objects introduce texture, balance and a sense of permanence that cannot be replicated by newly made pieces alone.
This is the principle behind the LÜRON selection. We look for works that carry historical character with ease, and that feel as convincing in a Paris apartment as they do in a more modern architectural setting.
