18th Century, French Faience Plate, La Rochelle, Polychrome Grapevine Decoration

€350

An authentic 18th-century French faience plate from La Rochelle, finely hand-painted in soft polychrome enamels with a central floral and grapevine motif. The composition includes clusters of blue grapes and stylized orange blossoms, delicately arranged around the scalloped rim with small blue and green flourishes.

This type of decoration — combining simple rural motifs and a pale tin glaze — is typical of the La Rochelle faience workshops, active from the mid-18th century. The slightly greyish-white glaze, kiln firing marks, and irregular potting are characteristic of provincial production from western France during the Louis XV period.

Details:
• Date: Circa 1750–1780
• Dimensions: Diameter: 24 cm (9.4 in); Height: 3.5 cm (1.4 in)
• Condition: Good antique condition; small chips along the rim and minor glaze wear consistent with age and use, with natural firing flaws typical of 18th-century faience.

Chosen for today, grounded in history.

A well-placed antique does more than decorate a room - it gives it authorship. Against a contemporary interior, older objects introduce texture, balance and a sense of permanence that cannot be replicated by newly made pieces alone.
This is the principle behind the LÜRON selection. We look for works that carry historical character with ease, and that feel as convincing in a Paris apartment as they do in a more modern architectural setting.
