Late 16th Century, Chinese Ming Dynasty Blue and White Charger, Wanli Period (1573-1619)

€1.190

An impressive Ming Dynasty blue and white porcelain charger from the Wanli period (1573-1619), finely painted in underglaze cobalt blue with a central scene depicting cranes among bamboo and lotus — classic symbols of longevity and purity in Chinese art. The wide border is decorated with alternating floral cartouches and a dense fish-scale diaper pattern, typical of late Wanli export ware produced in Jingdezhen kilns.

The back shows natural firing imperfections, kiln grit adhesion, and a ring foot consistent with 16th-century production. The glaze bears the warm ivory tone and fine craquelure expected from authentic period pieces. These chargers were often exported to Southeast Asia and Europe via the Portuguese and Dutch trade routes, making them highly prized among collectors of early Chinese blue and white porcelain.

Chosen for today, grounded in history.

A well-placed antique does more than decorate a room - it gives it authorship. Against a contemporary interior, older objects introduce texture, balance and a sense of permanence that cannot be replicated by newly made pieces alone.
This is the principle behind the LÜRON selection. We look for works that carry historical character with ease, and that feel as convincing in a Paris apartment as they do in a more modern architectural setting.
