18th Century Spanish Talavera Blue and White Faience Charger with Bird and “Helechos y Palmeta” Decoration

€1.200

Elegant Spanish blue and white faience charger from Talavera de la Reina, dating to the 18th century, hand-painted in cobalt blue with a central depiction of a bird among stylized foliage, framed by large fern (“helechos”) and palm frond (“palmeta”) motifs.

Executed in rich cobalt under a soft, milky tin glaze, this piece exemplifies the mature Talavera baroque style, where naturalistic elements became more fluid and decorative. The glaze shows the typical light craquelure and firing pittings that add authenticity and charm to 18th-century Talavera production.

The reverse shows turning rings and a sandy buff clay body with characteristic firing traces of Talavera kilns.

Chosen for today, grounded in history.

A well-placed antique does more than decorate a room - it gives it authorship. Against a contemporary interior, older objects introduce texture, balance and a sense of permanence that cannot be replicated by newly made pieces alone.
This is the principle behind the LÜRON selection. We look for works that carry historical character with ease, and that feel as convincing in a Paris apartment as they do in a more modern architectural setting.
