Magnificent and extremely rare two-volume folio set of
“Tractatus de Pactis Nuptialibus, sive De Capitulis Matrimonialibus”
by Joan Pere Fontanella, printed in Geneva in 1752 by Frères Cramer & Philibert.
This edition is one of the most important legal publications on nuptial agreements and matrimonial contracts in early modern Europe. Fontanella (1575–1649) was the leading Catalan jurist of his era, and his writings shaped family and patrimonial law across Catalonia and Spain for more than a century.
Important Provenance
Both volumes contain an early ownership inscription:
Miguel Malatí de Vich, a member of a documented Catalan family from the historic town of Vic.
Such provenance linked to an 18th-century legal household significantly enhances scholarly and collectible value.
Additional Manuscript Material
Inside the volumes were preserved:
• a hand-written musical score (18th–19th century),
• a hand-written letter in old Spanish/Catalan.
These pieces of manuscript ephemera belong to the same historical context and make the set even more exceptional.
